Royal Recommendations from the Knitting Princess

Hello! Before I get to my recommendation for this month, I thought you'd like to know a little bit about me. I'm not actually a princess, I just love things that sparkle and I love knitting. I've been knitting for 28 years and crocheting for 20. I've also dabbled in cross-stitch, embroidery, quilting, drawing, painting, and I would like to learn to tat some day. Basically, I can't sit still and why would I, when I can craft? But more than just loving to craft, I love teaching others to craft, which I get to do at Our Yarn Studio. I'm so glad that Our Yarn Studio came along so that I can do all my favorite things in one place. They also always have free coffee, and coffee is another favorite thing.

Now that you know who I am and a little about me, I bet you're wondering what I'm doing writing a blog here. With all the fun things happening at the Studio, and all the amazing products that have been brought in, Michelle is letting me take over her blog for a day every month to tell you about some of my favorites products. So without further ado ...

The royal recommendation this month is Malabrigo's Rios in worsted weight and colors "Glazed Carrot" and "Ivory."

Not only is this yarn super soft and feels great while you're working with it, but it is at an excellent retail price point. It makes doing things like .... knitting a wool blanket affordable. Which is why I got a bunch of this in the first place. I need (yes, need) to make a wool blanket, and I knew it would cost a bit, but I wanted the wool. Some other fun facts about Rios, is that it is super wash yarn, so if you really need to, you can throw it in the wash machine.

And in case you're curios about how it works up, here are a couple of pictures of the first square of my blanket I am making. I took a double knit potholder pattern that was meant to be done with fingering weight yarn, used US size 5 needles and worsted weight yarn (I knit really loose, so if you try this, you might want to start with US size 7 needles) and wa-la! I got a rectangle that is 10.5 inches tall by 12 inches wide. I will probably make 35 of these rectangles and sew them together in a 5x7 grid.

If you want to try this yarn with this pattern or something else, just mention the blog, or put CHICKEN in the coupon code online to get 10% off. The code will only work for the Malbrigos Rios Worsted Weight in colors "Glazed Carrot" and "Ivory" and will only be good until February 25th (because I'll post my next reccomendation the day after that). The pattern I used is called "Rooster Potholder" and is designed by Donielle Oliver Showvay (otherwise known as Knitting Knicely). She has a deal where if you buy 6 of her potholder patterns, you get a discount.

Also, if you do get this yarn, let me know what you made with it!
